Membership

Membership is free and open to qualified individuals. PVA's President invites you to join our more than 19,000 members today and have your voice, energy and efforts assist others living with SCI/D.

By joining the North Central Chapter PVA, you have the opportunity to have your voice, your energy and your efforts assist others. Upon joining you will begin to receive the chapter's monthly newsletter, as well as notifications of upcoming events and meetings. In addition, you will have the opportunity to participate in many programs, including volunteering and sporting events.

Medical Requirements

The regular general membership meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapter Office. The Chapter Board of Directors meets every other month to discuss the general business of the organization.

There are two categories for membership: Regular and Associate

Regular Member

Any individual who meets the following criteria is eligible to join PVA:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces whose discharge was other than dishonorable
  • An individual who has suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of trauma or disease.* (Note: The injury or disease onset could have occurred after discharge/retirement from military service.)

* Some examples of spinal cord diseases are:

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Lupus
  • Tuberculosis
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Poliomyelitis
  • Spina bifida
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Tumors of the spinal cord

Associate Member

Associate Membership is issued to any individual or business interested in the mission of NCPVA. There is no membership fee and membership includes a subscription to the North Central Chapter PVA Newsletter.

NCPVA Educational Scholarship Program 2010-2011

The North Central Chapter PVA has established a scholarship program to provide financial assistance for PVA members and their families so that they may achieve their goals in the academic arena. Applications are now available for 2010-2011. Please contact the Chapter Office for an application if you meet the following Scholarship Guidelines.

Applications must be postmarked by July 15th. There will be no exceptions.

 

National PVA Educational Scholarship Program

Purpose

The purpose of the PVA Educational Scholarship Program is to provide assistance to PVA members and members of their immediate family to meet their educational goals.

The 2010 scholarships will be in the amount of $1,000 for full-time students and $500.00 for part-time students for an academic year. A scholarship awardee will be required to verify their status as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited college or university. 

Eligibility

The scholarship program is open to all PVA members, their spouses and unmarried children under age twenty-four. Individuals who successfully complete the PVA Leadership Program will receive preferential consideration during the selection process.

Submission Process

Individuals who wish to apply for the program must send a request for application to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Attn. Scholarship Program, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20006, Phone (800) 424-8200 Ext. 775 or douglasb@pva.org.  An application packet will be returned to the requestor for completion. Completed applications will be returned to PVA in six copies by June 17, 2010. Accompanying documents will include an official transcript or official completion certificate or diploma for each school listed in the application.

A personal statement must be attached to the application and may not exceed two pages. The statement should contain intended courses of study and long- and short-term goals. A copy of the personal statement must be attached to each of the six copies submitted.

A letter of recommendation from a faculty member or other school official should accompany the application. Letters should be forwarded directly to PVA for inclusion with the application.
